Keeping Boston Safe: Officers Arrest Two, Recover Two Firearms After a Traffic Stop

SAFER BOSTON: At about 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, Officers assigned to District C-6 Drug Unit (South Boston), conducted a traffic stop in the area of Egleston Square, after receiving information of a person with a gun.

As officers approached the motor vehicle, they observed the female suspect, later identified as Asuasha Griffiths, 26, of Mattapan, in the back seat. Once safely removed from the motor vehicle, a Polymer 80 9MM semiautomatic firearm was recovered in a fanny pack from the area where Griffiths was seated. Also, inside the fanny pack were two magazines separate from the handgun. One had a ten round capacity the other seventeen-round capacity magazine contained eight live rounds.

Officers further conducted a pat frisk of the vehicle and removed the front passenger, later identified as, Joseph Vilburn, 20, of Dorchester. A backpack containing a Colt .38 Special revolver with four live rounds inside the cylinder was recovered from the area where Vilburn was seated.

Griffiths was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Vilburn was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

Both are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
