Diligent Investigation Enables Detectives to Identify and Arrest Male Wanted in Connection to Chinatown Shooting

 

SAFER BOSTON: At about 9:30 PM, on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, detectives assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) and officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested John McGee, 37, of Quincy. Following a lengthy investigation, McGee was taken into custody in the area of 75 Centre Street in Dorchester. McGee is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Subsequent Offense, Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offense, and seven counts of Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon. 

The facts and circumstances surrounding the original incident are as follows:

At about 3:33 AM, on Saturday, September 21, 2019, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) heard multiple shots being fired in the area of Chinatown Gateway Park between Hudson and Beach Streets. Officers responded to the area of 19 Edinboro Street and observed a group of individuals taking cover behind a parked motor vehicle, none of whom were injured. Officers searched the area for the suspect to no avail.
