One Less Gun: One in Custody and Loaded Firearm Recovered During Traffic Stop in Hyde Park

One Less Gun: At about 6:15 PM on Friday, May 17, 2019, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted a traffic stop in the area of 950 American Legion Highway, Hyde Park., resulting in the arrest of Jalani Tinnis-Edwards, 21, of Mattapan.

 During the traffic stop officers observed Edwards tense up while attempting to reach for a backpack off of his shoulder. Officers were able to prevent Edwards from removing the bag and immediately felt a heavy metal object inside. Officers unzipped the backpack and recovered a loaded Ruger A95 9mm with one round in the chamber and ten rounds of ammunition in the magazine.

 Jalani Tinnis-Edwards was charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He will be arraigned in West Roxbury Court.

 

Officers Arrest Three Suspects in Roxbury and Recover Two Loaded Firearms

At about 01:09 AM on Monday, January 28, 2019, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of 1210 Walnut Avenue, Roxbury. Upon arrival officers discovered ballistic evidence and shattered glass at the intersection of Walnut Street and Walnut Avenue and learned a short time later that a motor vehicle had been damaged by the gunfire.    

Operations dispatcher broadcasted a description of a black motor vehicle that was observed fleeing the scene towards Dudley Street to Warren Street and then onto Circuit Street. Officers observed a black sedan parked on the right side of Circuit Street and occupied by a female, later identified as Dominique Dockery, 26 of Roxbury. As officers approached the sedan, they observed Dockery to be noticeably nervous and inconsistent with her answers about her whereabouts. At this point officers observed two males approach the motor vehicle and all three gave conflicting statements as to how and why they were at 46 Circuit Street, based on the description of the suspects’ vehicle and the proximity to the shooting, officers conducted a pat frisk of the vehicle and recovered a backpack from the back seat containing one .22 caliber pistol and one .38 revolver.

Dominique Dockery, 26, of Roxbury; Jathaniel Ayala, 23, of Dorchester; and Wynton Meyers, 25, of Brockton will be charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. They will all be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

Officers Apprehend Suspect Who Failed to Stop for Police with Children on Board and Recover Loaded Firearm in Dorchester

ONE LESS GUN: At about 6:47 PM on Wednesday, January 9. 2019, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force, arrested one male and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 49 Mather Street in Dorchester. While on patrol in the area of the above location, officers observed a gray motor vehicle abruptly stop before accelerating at increasing speeds. A query of the motor vehicle led to the discovery of an expired registration. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of 750 Washington Street in Dorchester.  Upon activating their emergency equipment (lights and sirens) the suspect motor vehicle fled in an attempt to evade officers. Officers pursued the motor vehicle in an initially unsuccessful attempt to stop the car. The vehicle began to slow down in the area of 49 Mather Street in Dorchester, before again taking off at a high rate of speed. Eventually officers were able to locate the motor vehicle stopped in the area of Allston Street and Mather Street. Officers approached the vehicle which was still running with the driver’s side open and the driver’s side window down. Inside of the vehicle, officers observed two young males who were unaccompanied. Officers notified the children’s mother who responded to the scene. Officers observed a male exit from a pathway next to 49 Mather Street who was breathing heavily and sweating profusely. Officers identified the male as the operator of the motor vehicle. Officers retraced the route in which the suspect had travelled and recovered a silver revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

Officers arrested Denzil Pierre, 35-years-old, of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 3rd Offense, Armed Career Criminal Level 3, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number, Reckless Endangerment of a Child, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration. Pierre was also wanted for Failure to Stop and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License out of Brookline District Court. Pierre is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court. 

 

Search Warrant Leads to the Recovery of a Loaded Firearm While Officers Arrest Suspect Wanted in Connection to Recent Incident in Dorchester

ONE LESS GUN: At about 7:00 AM on Thursday January 10, 2019, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) executed a search warrant with the assistance of the Boston Police SWAT Team in the area of 6 Brook Avenue in Dorchester. Officers were able to recover a loaded .380 caliber Colt handgun while arresting the target of their investigation, Luis Pina-Baptista, 44, of Dorchester.

The warrant was sought in connection to an incident that occurred at about 10:40 PM on Thursday January 3, 2019, in the area of Upham Avenue in Dorchester during which an adult female victim was confronted by the suspect who was later identified by investigators. During the confrontation, the suspect pointed a handgun at the victim during an apparent ‘road rage’ incident.

The suspect will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon

 

Safer Boston: Search Warrant Enables BPD Officers to Recover a Firearm in Dorchester

ONE LESS GUN: At about 4:07pm, on Friday, December 28, 2018, detectives from District B-3 (Mattapan) executed a search warrant in the area of 67 Ceylon Street in Dorchester. As a result of the search, officers were able to locate and confiscate a black semi-automatic Walther P99 9mm firearm and a black Walther P99 magazine. In light of the items that were discovered, officers charged Darryl Dowdell, 40, of Boston with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and the Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
