UPDATE: BPD Homicide Detectives Arrest Suspect Wanted in Connection to Death Investigation at 332 Harvard Street in Dorchester

 

Less than a year and a half ago, on March 31, 2015, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 332 Harvard Street in Dorchester. On arrival, officers observed that a fire had been set on the first floor of the residence. After the fire was extinguished, a search of the location lead to the discovery of a male suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was later identified as Richard Long, 37, of Boston. 

Earlier this evening, at about 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 12, 2016, members of the BPD’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit located and arrested the individual wanted in connection to the shooting death of Richard Long. Officers arrested Victor Arrington, 30, of Boston and charged him with Murder, Arson and Armed Assault with Intent to Murder. Arrington is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in Dorchester District Court.

Said Commissioner William Evans, “To know the individual responsible for the murder of Richard Long is now in police custody and is no longer in a position to hurt or harm other members of our community is a testament to the BPD’s ongoing efforts to protect and serve the citizens of Boston. To Richard’s family, I hope the news of today’s arrest brings with it some level of solace, comfort and closure. To my detectives, members of the Fugitive Apprehension Unit and Suffolk County District Attorneys Office, I’d again like to thank them for all of the hard work done and dangers confronted in arresting the suspect wanted for the murder of the victim in this case.”

At about 11:25 AM on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a person shot in the area of 332 Harvard Street, Dorchester.

Upon arrival, officers observed that a fire had been set in the first floor residence of the above. Boston fire personnel responded and were quickly able to contain the fire. Officers entered the apartment and found a 37-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Boston EMTs pronounced the male victim deceased at the scene. The victim has since been identified as 37-year-old Richard Long of Boston.

Death Investigation in the Area of 332 Harvard Street in Dorchester

 

At about 11:25 AM on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a person shot in the area of 332 Harvard Street, Dorchester.

Upon arrival, officers observed that a fire had been set in the first floor residence of the above. Boston fire personnel responded and were quickly able to contain the fire. Officers entered the apartment and found a 37-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Boston EMTs pronounced the male victim deceased at the scene. A second, 34-year-old female victim was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
